Our Mission is to provide hunger relief. We have been serving people in need since 1979. With the help of a retired professional chef and many volunteers we serve, free of charge, hot, well-balanced, nutritious meals to as many as 100 or more guests every Wednesday and Sunday in a safe, inviting and clean environment. Guests include the homeless, disabled, unemployed, elderly, children and anyone needing a helping hand at this time in their lives. In addition to a hot meal we also offer clothing and personal care supplies. At Christmas, guests receive a gift bag with necessary items. We also offer our guests moral support and encouragement in coping with their situations. We may refer them to other agencies for emergency shelter, public assistance or job opportunities, and we give them a list of additional soup kitchens in the Rochester area. Since 1984 when we incorporated and began keeping records, A Meal & More has served over 150,000 meals. Initially we served the elderly in the Christ Church neighborhood in downtown Rochester. The program soon expanded to include anyone in need of a meal.
We welcome all who come to us for assistance without regard to race, sex, age, color, religion, national origin, handicap or income!

Sources of Support A Meal & More, Inc. is a non-profit, IRS tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Financial support comes from donations by area churches, service bureaus, charitable foundations, individuals, businesses and federal grants. A majority of our food is provided by Foodlink. We also receive fresh seasonal produce from the vegetable gardens at St. John's and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Rochester. From time to time we also receive foods from area food cupboards.
We are listed in the United Way Campaign for donor-designated contributions. Our number is 1483.

Fruit Juices (Apple, Cranberry, Grape,) Coffee, Beef & Chicken Broths, Crushed Italian Plum Tomatoes, Pasta (Penne, Spaghetti, Rigatoni,) Ketchup, Mayo, Mustard, Ranch & French Dressings, Canned Green Beans & Corn, We prefer large or industrial sizes, but will gratefully accept any size donations. Items can be dropped-off at the kitchen on Wednesdays and Sundays from 8 AM - 1 PM.

About Us Kitchen Manager and Chef Allen Callerame has joined A Meal and More; he provides hot, nutritious meals to 200 plus people each week. With the help of volunteers, a part-time dishwasher and a security/doorman, Allen makes it all happen and considers his work a privilege.


Operations We are guided by a volunteer Board of Directors who oversee the general operations, staffing, volunteer coordination, publicity, fund raising, grant writing and financial management.

Volunteer Information To volunteer please email us:  Volunteers set tables, serve food, arrange desserts, breads and help with making salads. Please cover your hair. A baseball hat with hair pulled back is fine. No opened-toe shoes and latex gloves (we furnish hair nets and latex gloves when needed) must be worn when handling food.

Wednesday Volunteers need to be at the kitchen by 10:00AM to set up and prep food. Wednesday’s serving time is 12:00 noon! We stop serving at 1:00, and volunteers are asked to help clean off tables etc. You should be done no later than 1:30.
You will need to park in the Church lot on Lawn Street or on-street parking. There is a door at the back of the Church on Lawn Street. Just knock on the door.

Sunday Volunteers need to be at the kitchen by 11:00AM to set up and prep food. Sunday’s serving time is 1:30PM!
There is about 30 minutes downtime, you can have coffee at church or walk over to Java's. We stop serving at 2:30, volunteers are asked to help clean off tables etc. You should be done no later than 2:45.
You can park behind the Church in the large parking lot on Lawn Street. Directly across from the lot is the back door to the Church/kitchen. Enter, the kitchen is on your left.
